So you're interested in more information about the Scroll of Battle. Well, you've come to the right place. You may be wondering about why I created a encounter builder/combat tracker for D&D 5e when there are already lots of them out there. Or perhaps you're wondering what exactly IS an encounter builder/combat tracker. Or maybe you want to know more about the person who made this thing.
I shall endevour to shed some light on these things below.
The reason I created the Scroll of Battle, even though there are other encounter builders/combat managers out there, is because I couldn't find one that didn't try to be anything more than that for free. Sure there are tools out there that do those things, but they also try to manage your entire campaign, or lock certain features behind pay walls. Scroll of Battle is free, and supported by ads.
If you're wondering what this is used for, it's for dungeon masters, also known as game masters, in the tabletop role playing game known as Dungeons & Dragons (5th edition). It's a tool to build and track encounters that the players in the game might have in the course of a gaming session.
As for a little about me, the creator of Scroll of Battle, I'm a professional software developer who is also a D&D nerd. I love creating cool tools, like the Scroll of Battle, as much as I love building and playing in the worlds that I and my friends create when we're playing.
A few tidbits about the Scroll of Battle:
- There are almost 1100 monsters in its database, all licensed under the OGL.
- It stores your characters locally, so you don't need to enter them again if you leave the site and come back later.
- It's a responsive site, so it will work on your desktop PC, tablet, or phone. I recommend using a tablet or larger display, however.
- Nothing is stored on the Scroll of Battle server. Everything you need to use it gets downloaded to your computer, so you can make it available offline and it will still work.
- If enough people like it then I've got some ideas for new features to add to it already, but feel free to DM me with feedback using the contact link on the main page.
- It's FREE TO USE. It's ad-supported, so it'd be cool if you don't mind whitelisting the site, but it's definitely not required.
- I've just released this, so there is almost certainly room for improvement. Again, feel free to DM me using the contact link on the main page.
